Emily Vinson's entire life was impacted by the loss of her mother when she was 2years old. At 82 Emily contacts a hypnotist hoping to draw out hidden memories and discover as much as possible about the short time she spent with the woman who gave her life. Glen Wiley, the hypnotist, teaches her more about herself than she had expected. He helps her bring out memories of many past lives, including an experience that took place on a smoke filled battlefield. All of Emily's lives have had the same tragic outcome, the loss of her mother at a young age. Her soul is caught in what Glen calls circularity, meaning that the tragedy will occur again and again unless she can break the pattern. She and Glen must revisit her past lives and use what they learn to find the other souls who are part of the circle. They must use the past to change the future. Steve Lindahl has taken an alternative approach to a very serious subject. Emily is an aged woman who has suffered throughout her life because of the loss of her mother when she was only two years old. Nearing the end of her life, she finally turns to a hypnotist who regresses her back to the period when her mother was alive. Lindahl handles the subject of regression with finesse. When he plunges even deeper into regression to past lives, he does so in a way that makes it seem natural andSteve Lindahl's first two novels, Motherless Soul and White Horse Regressions, were published in 2009 and 2014 by All Things That Matter Press. His third novel, Hopatcong Vision Quest, published by Solstice Publishing, won a CIPA 2017 Evvy merit award in historical fiction. The chapters are short and engaging, and the writing is fantastic. The story begins with one woman's search to demystify the mother she never knew, the figure whom she believes to have hold the secret that will break a cycle of discontent. Where this leads her is on a journey of self-discovery that begins with a trip to a hypnotist. Emily's journey is filled with realizations that grow exponentially, and ultimately lead to a philosophical and spiritual awakening.
Great book-draws you in and keeps you there!
This is difficult, because I loved the theories and ideas presented in this book, but the writing was in desperate need of editing and polishing, and it was very difficult to keep track of who was who (in varying lifetimes, personas, timelines). I felt like I need to make a chart to keep things sorted out.I applaud the author's efforts to tell a compelling story about a complex theory (reincarnation and moving from lifetime to lifetime with the same soul family).
