Representaion During Books Necroscope (Necroscope #1)
DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES...Except to Harry Keogh, Necroscope. And what they tell him is horrifying.
In the Balkan mountains of Rumania, a terrible evil is growing. Long buried in hallowed ground, bound by earth and silver, the master vampire schemes and plots. Trapped in unlife, neither dead nor living, Thibor Ferenczy hungers for freedom and revenge.
The vampire's human tool is Boris Dragosani, part of a super-secret Soviet spy agency. Dragosani is an avid pupil, eager to plumb the depthless evil of the vampire's mind. Ferenczy teaches Dragosani the awful skills of the necromancer, gives him the ability to rip secrets from the mind and bodies of the dead.
Dragosani works not for Ferenczy's freedom but world domination. He will rule the world with knowledge raped from the dead.
His only opponent: Harry Koegh, champion of the dead and the living.
To protect Harry, the dead will do anything--even rise from their graves!

Incredibly eerie and strange, Necroscope was a fairly interesting horror novel. This one was..complicated. I finally got around to reading it after putting it off for a while, and I did enjoy it. However, it wasn't really what I expected and it did have its flaws.First off, I think it's a little too lengthy. 100-200 pages could have been cut and it would have been a stronger, tighter story. The story is set during the Cold War, and we see Britain and Russia both utilizing ESP agents, as in agents with some type of mental power. Our two main characters are a necromancer, who
Gosh, what an exciting read. Set in the times of cold war (1976) you see the development of two different characters, Harry Keogh (west) and Boris Dragosani (east) with all the ingredients of a spectacular spy story. Keogh has the talent of speaking with the dead (necroscope) and Dragosani is a necromancer. Who will win at the end? Dragosani often travels to Romania to meet a long buried evil there. It is the real myth behind Dracula (incredibly compelling background story) he encounters.

Wow, okay, it took me a little longer than usual to get through this book. The amount of detail was a real slog at the beginning, but once you start getting into it, the story really takes off. There are still spots of deep deep deeeeeeep detail on par with something from Lord of Rings or something, which I guess is one way of describing the magnitude of this series, minus any metaphor or symbolism Tolkien was a master for, still, its kinda nice having the horror equivalent of his work. As for
I really should have loved this book, set in the years after WII with the traditional Cold War adversaries and an added supernatural twist, competing divisions made up of agents with unusual abilities. But there were long passages of background information that I really struggled to wade through. This is a series of books so I guess you can consider this a set-up book but it just seemed like there could have been a better way to incorporate all the information without resorting to these extended
I ended up liking this one but there were times at the beginning that I wanted to DNF. The story starts off extremely slowly with lots of character development on the two main characters Boris Dragosani and Harry Keogh. As a math teacher, I enjoyed the multiple chapters dedicated to Harry's performance in math class at school but if I wasn't a math nerd, I'd have given up then. But once the story got going...eventually, I really enjoyed myself. There are references to Bram Stoker's Dracula and
